NEW DELHI: The Army should continue to maintain operational readiness at its “peak level”, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on Wednesday, in the backdrop of India and China keeping their troops forward deployed for the third consecutive winter along the frontier in eastern Ladakh.
Interacting with top generals during the Army commanders’ conference here, Singh said he had experienced first-hand the high standard of operational preparedness of the 12-lakh force while visiting forward areas. “We ought to be prepared for any operational contingencies. I have full confidence in the Indian Army and its leadership,” he said.
The five-day conference led by General Manoj Pande, which began on Monday, is undertaking a comprehensive review of the operational situation, combat readiness and infrastructure development along the frontiers with China and Pakistan as well as modernisation plans through indigenisation and human resource management.
Apart from Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, IAF and Navy chiefs, a former top diplomat as well as a retired R&AW officer are slated to talk on “Contemporary India-China relations” and “Technological Challenges for National Security” during the conference.
