NEW DELHI: Ishan Kishan rewrote history books with a breathtaking display of batting in Chattogram on Saturday, when he became the youngest and the quickest to score a double century in one-day internationals during the third ODI between India and Bangladesh on Saturday.
With skipper Rohit Sharma out injured, Ishan made the most of his opportunity, scoring 210 off just 131 balls after India were put in to bat by the hosts in the dead rubber. Bangladesh have already sealed the three-match series by winning the first two ODIs.
But it was Ishan’s day, who, after losing his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan (3) cheaply, went ballistic to first reach his maiden ODI century and then converted that into a double ton in just 126 balls. He is also the first batter to do so.
At 24 years, Ishan is also youngest to score an ODI double century and only the fourth Indian in the list. The other three are Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma.
The 210-run knock is also the highest score in Bangladesh and the highest in ODIs against Bangladesh. It included 24 fours and 10 sixes.
Ishan added 290 runs for the first wicket with Virat Kohli, who scored 113 runs in 91 balls. It was Virat’s first ODI century since August 2019.
The partnership was broken when Ishan was dismissed by fast bowler Taskin Ahmed.
It didn’t take long for cricket fraternity to queue up on Twitter to wish the young Indian batter:
