Gerard Pique has announced he will retire and that the upcoming game against Almería at the Camp Nou will be his last. The Spaniard’s sudden decision sent shockwaves on the internet. Fans across the world are left heartbroken as they paid their tributes to the Barcelona legend. The 35-year-old posted the decision on his social media accounts adding, “It is the moment to end this stage of my life. I always said that after Barcelona there will be no other club, and that is the way it is going to be.” He has played 615 games for Barcelona, scoring 52 goals. “I will become a regular fan,” he continued. “I will support the team. I will pass my love for Barça to my children, like my family did with me. And you know me, sooner or later, I will be back.” Pique has won the FIFA World Cup in 2010, Champions League on three occasions with Barcelona, eight La Liga titles, among numerous other honours. Recently, he made the headlines after his separation from longtime girlfriend Shakira following allegations of his infidelity. The two were together for 12 years and share two children, Milan and Sasha.
