Congress defectors Amarinder Singh, Sunil Jakhar in top BJP body | India News

NEW DELHI: With an eye on the 2024 general elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday inducted former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh and former state Congress chief Sunil Jakhar into the party’s national executive, the key body which deliberates to frame the organisational agenda.
BJP has also appointed three leaders from Punjab as special invitees in the national executive—former Congress leader and former cabinet minister Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, former state BJP president Manoranjan Kalia, former Shiromani Akali Dal leader Amanjot Kaur Ramoowalia. Amanjot is daughter of former Union minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia.
BJP also appointed former Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill as the BJP national spokesperson.
Amarinder Singh had joined BJP in September this year by merging his party Punjab Lok Congress. Jakhar, a formidable Hindu face in Punjab, had shifted to the saffron party in May this year.
